Adult Volunteers

First United Methodist Church takes the well-being of its youth/children very seriously. The Adult Volunteers who work with our youth are screened according to our Safe Sanctuary guidelines, which are:
All volunteers should be active participants in the life of the church for six or more months prior to beginning of volunteer service. (Exceptions will be allowed for spouses of staff members, for persons who were active in a previous church, for VBS (Vacation Bible School), and for some off-site activities. In the case of exceptions, written recommendation will be required from an active member of FUMC or a staff member from their previous church.)
All volunteers will be interviewed by the Youth Pastor or other staff personnel. It is strongly recommended that the age-level staff director be present at all interviews of persons who will serve under their supervision.
All volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session prior to the beginning of their service. At this time, they will be educated in all youth policies and expected to sign a covenant of participation. Additionally, all youth workers, paid and volunteer, will be expected to sign and abide by the Adult Leadership Team Standards of Conduct, which goes hand-in-hand with the Safe Sanctuary Risk Reduction Policy.
FUMC will conduct new criminal records check on volunteers annually.
