College / Young Adult

It is the heart of First United Methodist to see young adults in Abilene ALIVE with passion for Jesus. We want to reach those through our ministry who are out of high school, enrolled in college, or entering the workforce - all of which represent critical junctures in a young adult's life. Our desire is to offer Godly guidance to young people in making decisions that will determine the direction for the rest of their lives.

FUMC offers Relevant , a young adult bible study combining a weekly dose of pizza, worship, games, and a laid back study of the Word. This group meets in the home of Tommy and Lindsay Hood every Thursday night at 7:30 PM , providing a time to go deeper in worship and in relationship with God and one another.

For those who are college-bound, we offer an Adopt-a-Student Program where students have the opportunity to be "adopted" by a couple or family at FUMC. Its purpose is to provide each student with a "home away from home" during the school year - a place to do laundry, eat a meal, and simply hang out with people who will provide love and encouragement on a weekly basis. Couples or families participating in this program must commit to weekly contact with a student for at least a full semester.

Every fall, our young adult ministry has a presence on the campus of McMurry University to assist incoming freshman in finding a church home in Abilene.

Contact the church office or Tommy Hood for more information.
